This is the first time I’ve sewn anything for project sewn, and it was fun! And easy! I’m always drawn to black and white/cream combos, and my fave color is green. So I decided to use that for my signature look. And it had to be a two piece outfit because I’m nursing.
I didn’t participate in order to win anything (because this is pretty much the easiest outfit ever to sew), but because I already had “knit pencil skirt” on my list of things I wanted to sew for me.
The list of things to sew for me is two items long: knit pencil skirt and cardigan. So now it’s one. ;) Why? Because my passion is sewing for my kiddos and also because I hate taking pictures of myself. I know we are all probably our own worst critic, but sometimes I look through the pictures and think, “My gosh, I really look like that?”
So to me it’s just better to not look at pictures of myself, ha! Back to this outfit…
Before you think I got all awesome and pieced this knit skirt together, I didn’t. It came variegated like this. Cool huh? And see, I didn’t even bother trying to match up the side seams. I traced an existing pencil skirt for this from Downeast, and since my existing knit skirt was a little big, I just traced and sewed it so that it was a little better fitting. Seriously, from start to finish this skirt took about 1/2 an hour. SO. Easy.
The shirt is just a modified version of the Megan Neilson ruched maternity shirt. I changed the neckline, didn’t ruche, took in the sides, and lengthened the sleeves. I should have ironed the hem on the sleeves as well but I was lucky to even get these pictures while Ruby was asleep.
Knit skirts, oh how I love them. There are a lot of skirts in my closet that are put on hold for the time being, since I can’t squeeze my behind into them since having Ruby.
What’s your signature look? Or could you put your finger on just one look? I actually don’t know what my signature look is, I just know I like pencil skirts and I like to be comfortable. This outfit does all of that and incorporates some favorite colors of mine.
