So far my kids have been on summer break for a couple week now. By day 2 they were already saying they were bored. Agh! I really love having my kids home for summer, but why does the phrase, “Mom, I’m bored, I don’t know what to do” grind on me so much? I guess perhaps because I feel it’s such a luxury to be bored and they don’t realize, like none of us do when we are kids, how wonderful it is to have all the time in the world.
Andrea from Andrea’s Notebook has come to the rescue with her Boredom Buster Kits. These work! At least for two of my kids (age 7 and 11). My 12 year old had me print the science one off for him but he never did it. My other kids? They’ve asked every day to print another one off. We’ve printed off My Adventure Book, Backyard Explorer Kit, My Science Journal, and Mini Cooking Class. We were low on ink and paper or they would have asked me to print every single kit off. They really had a hard time narrowing it down to one kit because they were all interesting to them.
The Ultimate Kit includes 10 activities, 5 creative activities, and 5 adventure activities. You can also choose to purchase the Reading Enrichment Kit which is a great addition to all the other activities. You can add that one for only $5.00 more, which is the best price for everything!
Ok, so let’s get on to the most important information. What did my kids think of it?
If my seven year old daughter coming up while typing this post and asking to print off her third kit is any indication, then I say the kits have gone over well with them. In fact, she’s sitting right beside me working on her Adventure Book. She has spent over an hour on both her kits she’s printed off.
She was so cute about it all–really taking it seriously. The first two words she used to describe herself in her Adventure Book (one of the pages in there) were Adventurous, and Explorer. Pretty cute. I’m totally keeping the Adventure Book forever because I love it and she loves it, and it is a great snapshot of her life at this age.
My son made Muddy Buddies last night all on his own for our movie night, and they tasted great! This is him doing the Science Journal Kit. He did two of the experiments.
Even my three year old took a few minutes to color one of the bonus printables.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. I had to be a little more involved in the beginning than I had planned on, but really, I can’t complain about being able to spend time with my kids. I would just make sure you are available to help. My 11 year old was fine but my 7 year old needed more help to make the book. We also loved the colorful books, and they can easily be printed in black and white to save ink costs.
The Ultimate Boredom Buster Kit includes 3 bonus printables for a limited time. You can also purchase just the Creative Kit or Adventure Kit for $12 each.
Yay for summer! And yay for kids using their brains :).
Thank you Andrea, for making such an easy and fun way to entertain my kids this summer!
