I’ve added videos to the other decades that didn’t have any. I just love the music and watching real people in action from those decades! Yea for YouTube!
Many of you have expressed that the 40’s and 50’s are your favorite. I would have to agree that they have some awesome fashion going on during those decades!
This era was a little harder to tack down to one style, because most website lump the early 40’s into the 30’s, and the later 40’s into the 50’s!
Wikihow.com said, “Women were wearing dresses with lots of fabric and now the materials began to become more extravagant. Sheer fabrics were becoming more popular and weren’t as formal as they had once been. Much of the new high fashion looks of this time were what we would later consider a 1950s style.”
The best info I found on this decade, if you are interested in learning more, I found on History Buff.
SO, considering as how it was just harder to find dresses not lumped into the decade before or after it, I decided to find some actual items of clothing from that decade to post for you.
Picture found here on ebay.
Lisa’s Fashion History Database has a lot of fun drawings of different fashions through most of the decades we’ll be talking about. The following pics are some of her sketches and pictures found there.
And just because I love these shoes, I had to include them! Also found here.
Ad for child’s dress, 1947, found here. Sheesh. Doesn’t $5.98 actually sound kind of like a lot for back then? I rarely spend more than $10.00 on something for my kids! I guess it was imported though:).
So sorry, I’m just loving the dresses and actually, men’s fashions are all the same it seems. I couldn’t find much on boys fashion other than they were starting to wear shorts or pants rather than knickers.
