Are you like me and get so excited that your favorite bloggers also design patterns? I love it!
The adorable, loveable, and talented Kate (See Kate Sew) has done it once again with an amazing pattern, this one called The Penelope Peplum. Not only is there the top version, but it also has a circle dress (or top) extension. Want one for a little girl? Check out her new Pippa Peplum pattern while you are shopping! So fun!
Kate’s instructions are thorough and the end resulting is flattering. I truly love this shirt!
One of the things I appreciated about the pattern is the simplicity. It really does not take long to sew this shirt. I cut the pieces out one night and sewed it during nap-time the next day. I love the options of sleeve lengths.
I chose to lengthen the bodice—I did that by 2” following Kate’s simple directions for doing so. I also cut off 3” of the peplum. To fit my body best, next time I will only lengthen the bodice by 1” and cut 2” off the peplum. That way it would still be the length I like overall, but the waist will fall at the right part of my body. Wish I had time for muslins but I do not. And even if I did I probably wouldn’t make them, ha!
I’m calling this my referee shirt, for obvious reasons. I really, really like it.
And I was oh so close to matching up those stripes perfectly on the front! But the knit stretched just a touch and so the lines aren’t perfect, but they are pretty close. For some reason I got this side of the shirt pictured below to match up perfectly on the side seam of the peplum, but it was totally off on the other side. Eh, who cares though. Still love it.
I love the fit—I made my top a medium based on my measurements. I was so close to sizing down but am glad I did not. So for me it fits true to the suggested size per my measurements.
Psst…it’s also a great top to hide my post-pregnancy belly that is hanging (literally) around so much longer, now that I’m 33! This extra weight just doesn’t want to come off! But I’m ok with it—I promise. I may weigh more now than ever before but I’m so thankful this body has carried and birthed four beautiful kiddos.
And that my friends, is my Penelope Peplum top. I’d have made the dress if I would have bought an extra yard of this fabulous striped fabric. So cute!
Thanks for having me on the tour today, Kate! Love your talent and thanks for sharing it with us all!
Hope you all have a lovely day. Mwah!

I’m not sure I ever have commented on your blog, except maybe for a contest. But wanted to say I think you look awesome. When I saw your Christmas photos I noticed how nice you looked- not to sound weird or anything. But I did notice that you were a bit curvier, but in a good way. I know I’m some random stranger, but wanted you to know that you really look beautiful after four kids. I’m 33 and also struggle with prego weight that left me curvier- but how come it’s so easy to see the beauty in others and not always in ourselves? ANyway, keep rocking it!
