Many of you here are probably aware that I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, if you’ve been following along for a while. The Sabbath is not always a “delight” around here if I’m being honest. Most of the time it’s trying to gear my children towards something that feels special, different, and worship-ful. Most of the time it’s trying to gear myself towards these things and not just wanting to take a nap and read a good book all day.
Today one of my counselors in Primary gave a wonderful lesson on keeping the Sabbath Day Holy, and since it’s been on my mind recently anyways, I used some of the ideas from her handout, as well as some other ideas I’ve read or just thought of myself. I find myself sitting in church wanting to have a more special Sabbath, but when I get home I feel pretty exhausted and all my good intentions go out the window, unfortunately! I’ve got it printed and hung in my home as of this afternoon. So when my kids complain about how bored they are, I try and gently persuade them to choose something other than wanting to watch TV or play Nerf guns. When I feel in a rut, I’ll be going to this list as well to help myself! As I’m writing this, my boys are having an epic Nerf gun battle, ha! And that’s ok. Baby steps to having a more peaceful Sabbath with less fighting around here is all I’m after.
