Today is mine and Dillon’s nine year anniversary! Nine years! Dillon is such an amazing dad and husband—he has always been so supportive of me. I really love being married, even with it’s ups and downs.
Goodness, I feel like we look so young in these pictures! I was just two weeks shy of turning 21, and he was 24, so yes, we were young, but that is quite normal in the LDS culture. Not any reason, not mandatory, just something that happens a lot!
Picture above is right after we got engaged. Does it look like I might be heavy to him? Ha ha! He is the strongest man ever so it’s kind of a funny picture to me, but we were very happy!
And I haven’t regretted a thing about marrying this man of mine. So here’s a funny story about my dress. Dillon and I had dated for over a year when he finally proposed to me. I say finally, but that is also something that is maybe a bit funny to those who are not LDS…people don’t date all that long before breaking up or getting engaged—especially at BYU . Well…I knew that I would marry him if he asked, but he hadn’t asked yet. And really, I kind of wondered what he was waiting for!
My mom called me telling me that some wedding dresses were on sale for a great price. I can’t even remember the store name, but since I knew money was tight for my mom, I thought we’d just go for it. I remember the style then was quite plain, but I really liked them. I kept trying on simple dress after simple dress.
Then I tried on the dress you see in the pictures. Totally not the style for 2001, at least not here in Utah. Like not even a little bit.
I really wanted to wear something that Dillon would think was beautiful, so I called him and asked as casually as I could, “So, if we were going somewhere fancy, would you want me to be in a more fancy dress or a more plain dress.” Dillon laughed and said, “Is this dress going to be WHITE?” He totally knew! So I said, “No, purple.” and hung up the phone. Ha ha! My mom told me, “This is your one day to dress up and feel like a princess. Do you want to look like everyone else? Or do you want to be different? “ So the “different” dress it was!
I love my wedding dress. Someday I’ll get it out and take more pics of the details.
Here’s to many more happy years of marriage!
