Amen!

07/09/2010 By Christie

Did you all see Vanessa from V and Co.’s post today?  I can’t even explain to you how much I LOVE that post. And it seems there are a lot of bloggers feeling the same way.  I know Sabra from Sew a Straight Line and I have talked a lot about the same things.  Doing things that we want to do, rather than what will drive up the traffic to our blogs.  You know, the whole “be true to yourself” type of thing.

Another post pertaining to the same thing was by Alisson at Cluck Cluck Sew.  Her post lists her goals for the summer, and I love it!

I used to not like the posts on others blogs about general life things–things that I didn’t expect on a craft or sewing blog.

And then I realized that they do it because that’s who they are!  I love those posts and blogs now.  Because I can see how their life rolls and I actually know a little bit more about who they are and what they are about rather than me just coming to their blog to always take take take, not really caring much about who I’m taking from.

But isn’t that still what I’m doing?  When I can take from their lives what is good and implement it into my own–especially non craft related things.  Like raising kids and how life is just busy and hard sometimes.  But also how great life is.  Thank you for letting me take those those things from your blogs.

Thank you also to the bloggers who are writing their feelings about their blogs.  I know Disney from Ruffles and Stuff had a post here,  Anna from Noodlehead had a post here, and Emily from Not So Idle Hands had a post here, all of which also got me thinking about these things.  And it’s so nice to know that I’m not the only one feeling this way.

Did you know that I actually love to cook?  Maybe you’ll start seeing a recipe or two.

Did you know that I used to do a lot of crafts with my kids?  I don’t make up the crafts, but maybe I’ll have more links to fun things the kids can do.

Did you know that I LOVE to read books.  And I haven’t done it much because I’m too concerned about losing readers in the meantime because I’m not crafting?

Did you know that last week, we had some friends over to play and I had the pool out, and I actually laid down on a towel and did nothing but watched the kids, without thinking even once, “Oh, I can do this project and this one thing will totally drive up traffic”  ?  It was so liberating.   I took a picture to document it because I honestly can’t remember the last time I just let myself do NOTHING and enjoyed it.
I wasn’t even doing nothing, I was watching my sweet kids in the pool having the time of their lives, and I was enjoying seeing the pretty clouds roll by.
I’ve been comparing myself too much and making this blog a competition, and it’s not about that.  It wasn’t making me happy to feel that way about it anyways.  So hopefully that phase of my blog is over and I can be real:).
Thanks for sticking with me through it all!

Yay!!! I think all the bloggers should get together and decide to relax! It’s summertime, right?? Besides, I don’t think readers expect us to be slaves to the blog anyway! Great post. :o)

I have never commented here before but I am so excited you wrote this. I just deleted my followers box and became liberated (I was inspired by Becky over at Farmgirl paints). I stopped worrying about readers and now DAYS go by before I even peek in on THE BLOG. At this moment my girls are telling me to COME HERE! THERE IS A SPIDER OUTSIDE! And off I go…great post!

Thank you so much for posting this and including the links to the others’. My goal for my blog was to keep family and friends in touch with our happenings and to inspire along the way. Recently, I’ve been thinking that it needed something more. Thanks for reminding me…it’s about us! :-)

Amen to your post as well. I love all the ideas that I find around blogs, especially the reminders of what is most important. You know, some of those clouds almost look like continents floating in the ocean. Thanks for the photos.

Good for you:) There’s definitely more to life than blogging, we all need to get out and enjoy life while the weather’s nice!

awesome! I definitely think we all put too much pressure on ourselves. Glad it’s more than just a few of us that are feeling the same way. It’s hard because I’m a really competitive person, but every now and then it’s nice to have a glimpse into my real life, the one I should be living. :)

soooooo….I just found your blog. LOVE it:)

And yes, I read V & Co’s post today. Loved that too. It’s is so easy to stress about numbers. In fact, I always start comparing my stuff to other people’s and my numbers to theirs and it all feels like high school all over again. Blah. No thanks. So then I step back and remember that I simply have my blog to share stuff. And hopefully inspire a bit of creativity in someone’s life. ANYWAY. I Love Your Blog. I will most certainly be back:)

Look at the title you chose for your blog. If it goes beyond that, when it becomes too much — a chore even — then it’s no long easy peasy. So stay true to yourself and follow your original instinct to keep it simple and you can’t go wrong.

I SO agree! It seems like everyone is feeling the same way lately :). I think it’s good for us to all know our limits, and especially to focus on what we love most in life! Sometimes it’s easier said than done, but I think knowing others feel the same way helps a lot.

I loved the same post that she did. You are right, I think all of us are thinking the same thing.

Thanks for sharing your feelings too.

Enjoy your sweet family and your summer.
