Bateau Neck Top: Pattern Review and Giveaway! {CLOSED}

09/19/2013 By Christie

DSC_1092When Anneliese from Aesthetic Nest asked if I wanted to review her new pattern, The Bateau Neck Top, I knew if I said yes it would give me a good reason to start sewing again, just a little at least.  I’m so glad I said yes because I really love this pattern!DSC_1105

It seems the sewing world has completely embraced knits (well, at least the blogs I follow).  Which is great because that also means more options for knit sewing patterns and knit fabric are being offered.  I know they have been all along, but it seems to be the thing these days.

DSC_1093

The Bateau Neck Top pattern does not disappoint.  Anneliese has put together many options for finishing this garment.  I loved the pleated detail on one option so I chose that.  You can choose from:

–Bateau Neck Top with Pockets
–Ruffled Bateau Neck Top
–Pleated Bateau Neck Top
–Button-Back Bateau Neck Top

Rather than the ruffle neck, I put in some ric-rac so it’s just peeking out the front.  Had I sewed it into the back as well, it wouldn’t stretch over her head, just fyi.

DSC_1087

Not only are there a some great top options, but Anneliese also has a pattern to extend this into a dress.  And the drop-waist version is really adorable.  I would have made the dress, but Bailey asked me to just make it into a top.

DSC_1099

Bailey said it was comfy.  I think it’s adorable.  It’s always nice when you know something you made will be worn.  I see many more bateau tops in her future.  Perhaps for the boys, too?

DSC_1089

I think the sleeve length is great.  The whole top just looks very classic to me.  I highly recommend this pattern for beginners—especially those who fear sewing with knits.  This was a very quick sew and I love the results.  It’s also such a versatile pattern.  Love it!

DSC_1108

The top is offered in sizes 18 months to 10 years, so you can get a lot of use from this pattern!

Anneliese has offered to give away one Bateau Neck Top pattern and the dress extension pattern to one lucky reader.

Oooh, knits. I’m very much a newbie at sewing (haven’t done much since home ec class in 1986). A simple pattern sounds perfect and this pattern is so cute.

The top is adorable and your model is so cute. I really love the shoes too. The ric rac is a really nice touch . . . I know a lot of little girls would prefer it to the ruffles, patterns that leave you with lots of options are the most worth it. Thank you for the chance to win what looks like a nice fun pattern. I hear you on the hard to find time to sew. Its a little trickier with little ones who need your attention, but its worth it to leave the machines alone cause they grow wicked fast and projects can wait for quieter times) You have a beautiful family!
