Christmas Garland

12/23/2014 By Christie Leave a Comment

These garlands are so incredibly easy to make!  You saw them on my post HERE, where I brought them to the children’s hospital for the families that are staying there for Christmas, unfortunately. :(
I first made some for new babies being born, seen on this post HERE.  I love them and how quick they are to sew.  This time rather than using felt and cotton, I used flannel and cotton.  It all depends on the fabric you are finding–these were all so cute together I couldn’t resist ;).
So you’ve got your stack of fabric and some scissors or pinking shears.  Grab some cardstock as well to complete the gifting of the garland.
For the Christmas trees I just eyeballed how I wanted to have them cut out.  I liked how it looked with the pinking shears but soon learned that it was much faster with my rotary cutter since I was making so many.
If I was only making a couple, different shapes wouldn’t be too big a deal to cut out a little of, but making 15 of them was daunting and I for sure utilized my Go!baby accuquilt cutter.  I had some dies that worked perfectly for this.  And since they were for heart families, I was excited to use the heart die.
After your shapes are cut out, all you have left to do is simply sew them through each shape!  It’s like quilting a little because you are just chaining the shapes together.
It’s very easy to drape these over windows, hospital beds, etc.  And I love that it’s just bright and cheerful.
I printed on the paper what it was–I didn’t share the printable because I figured not many of them will be made specifically for hospital stays as were these.
Fold the whole cardstock sheet into thirds–I didn’t do even thirds though…as you can see.  I wanted it a bit wider.
Then simply wrap your garland around the cardstock.
Secure with tape.
Wrap the printed piece of cardstock around and secure with tape in the back.
All finished up!

All fabric used for the garland from Joann.
