Create Kids Couture: Reversible Bolero Pattern Review and Giveaway

09/27/2013 By Christie

I’ve got another great pattern review for you today!  Create Kids Couture contacted me to see if I’d like to choose a pattern to review.  I chose Bianca’s Reversible Bolero pdf pattern.  I love how it turned out!

Bailey has a few dresses that are sleeveless, and with fall approaching, I thought it was a good choice to makesomething she actually needs.

The pattern states the difficulty as intermediate level.  At first I didn’t think I would agree with that, but after completion, I agree.  Or at least a confident beginner.  It’s not that it is difficult, but there are a few little tricks to sewing this up to be reversible.  But those steps are all clearly stated and easy to follow, so don’t let me saying that deter any of you who want to sew this.  They are very detailed and thorough in their instructions.

I chose to use a lace overlay for one side.  The other side is just a cream fabric made from an old sheet I had.

The front has a pretty and unique design, I think.

It does tend to shift a little and overlap on the front, but this may also be due to the fact that I made a size 6 for Bailey, hoping to use it for a couple years (she just turned 5 and is pretty average for her size).  The pattern ranges from 6 months – 8 years, so it’s got a good range of kiddos it will fit.

With the lace overlay, there are three layers of fabric.  I cut the pattern out how it says, but cut an extra pattern out of the lace and basted it to one of the other layers.  I love how this bolero can go with so many of her dresses.  The lace will dress it up and the other side can go over her more casual dresses.  I didn’t get any pictures of the other side thoug. But it is definitely reversible and looks great on either side as well.

There isn’t a lot to print out for this pdf pattern, which I thought was nice.  They have you cut out rectangles of fabric and then use a pattern to curve the armholes and front of the bolero.

See her poor nose? We just had it x-rayed yesterday after a nose/knee collision on the trampoline earlier this week. She’s fine now, but it is broken. Thankfully the bone isn’t displaced, so nothing had to be done. She still wants a trampoline! She found one online the other day, she came up to me and said “ check out the best one here” on a website she had found. What a trouper.

And there you have it!
