Disney’s Frozen Party {Simple and Affordable!}

Devon turned 9 this month!!

He loves all things Frozen—particularly Olaf, and wanted a Frozen birthday party.

There are a couple things to note about his request:

~First, he’s a boy and most ideas are heavily geared towards girls for a Frozen Party.  I’m not saying that a boy can’t have a party all about Elsa and Anna, but my Dev did not want it geared towards those characters.

~Second, most parties I find online are so focused on the food that I find it hard to get good ideas on what to actually DO at the party rather than eat!  Don’t get me wrong—I love food and I love the fun ideas—and I actually went a little more out with the treats on this party than other times because it’s fun…but rather than giving the kids a sugar high, I always love to plan fun games for the kids so that they end up remembering the time they had there, rather than just the food they ate.

So, this party doesn’t necessarily contain a lot of pinnable images, but it is a very doable and very affordable party.  Plus, the bonus is it didn’t take me a long time to plan, which is always a good thing!

FOOD AND DECORATIONS:

I kept the food really simple and we had blue jello jigglers (to look like ice),  and cupcakes dipped in silver crystals to look like snow/ice.  We also had blue frozen popsicles (otter pops).  I’ll talk more about the donut snowmen in the activities and games portion of the post.

For party favors I got some fun carrot things at the Dollar Tree to use for Olaf’s nose.  Since it’s Easter time we found carrot straws and carrot bubbles.  I also got mint M&M’s and bought some snowcaps.

I kept the decor really simple and got almost everything at the Dollar Tree.  The curtain that looks like ice was the most fun touch, I think!  They are $6.00 and I had to buy two (in the party supplies at Walmart—I also saw them on Amazon).  I hung them with a white sheet behind them.  I got the other clear plates and bowls at the dollar store, along with the tablecloth and blue paper goods. The only thing I don’t love about the table cloth and decor on the table are the creases.  I’m sure there is a way to get those out but I didn’t have any time (Ruby had to go back to the doctor’s that day unexpectedly and so I was short a couple hours I had counted on!).

I printed out THIS Olaf onto cardstock and had it on the front door to welcome guests. I’m honestly not sure where the original source if for that printable!  So many people had linked to it on their own sites but never directed to the original source.  So I’m sorry, I don’t know if that link is the original one or not.  (click the link to get the full resolution picture, this is just to show you what you are clicking through to)

Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

For the snowman activity I just gave the kids some donuts, orange mike & ikes, chocolate chips, and straight pretzels that they used to make their own snowman.

I Wanna Stuff Some Chocolate in My Face! 

Ok, this next game is one that my family played growing up and it is SO much fun.  It wasn’t called “I wanna stuff some chocolate in my face” then of course, but I figured that is a line in a song and it fit PERFECTLY with the game, along with the hat, gloves, and scar you have to wear.  Though I think mittens are a much better choice for kids—the gloves were hard to get on and it was a little frustrating.  So all you do for this game is start with your two dice (or your die).  Once someone rolls doubles, they put on the hat, scar, and gloves.  The then take the fork and knife, or even a different combination of utensils depending on how hard or easy you want it to be, and they try and open the chocolate and eat it—or stuff it in their face ;).  They do this until the next person rolls doubles, then everything gets passed to that person as they frantically put on the warm gear and try to eat chocolate before the next person rolls doubles.  And so on.  The kids LOVED it and were so loud and giddy the whole time.  So funny.  Ah, I love kids so much!

Frozen Water Game:

This is also a childhood game I played.  To make it more “frozen” themed, we just put ice into the water.  To play, someone walks around with a spoon and a cup of water.  Everyone else sits around that person in a circle.  The person with the spoon and water thinks of a question and tells the group.  For instance, “What is my favorite food.”  Starting with one person, they walk around the circle and one by one the people try and guess the correct answer to the question—unless they don’t want to be splashed!  Whoever gets the answer correct gets a spoonful of water in their face—and in this case a really cold one!  They loved this game as well.  Especially because it is normally a total shock to them if they guess it right.  Fun game :).

Musical Chairs:

Totally self-explanatory here.  We played the Frozen soundtrack and I had so much fun hearing all the kids belt out the songs.  So cute!

And lastly, Guess Which Frozen Character:

I was so rushed that I spaced using these, but I had made this printable to share here for nine Frozen Characters (it was a stretch, for sure!).

How you use these is first cut them out.  When guests arrive, you tape one of the characters to their back and the other guests talk to them like they are that character, but not giving away too many big hints making it too easy.  The person “wearing” that character on their back can remove it once they guess who they are.  Kids love these kinds of games and I was bummed when I found my stack of characters sitting there unused!  So now you get to enjoy them!  To print them off, just click HERE.  Alternatively, you can click on the image below and save it as a picture to your computer and use it how desired.
