Facebook Page

01/11/2011 By Christie

You can now “like” me on Facebook.

The box to proclaim your undying “like” towards me is under the followers box in the right side bar >>>.

Update:  I actually took off the box and just have the following on my sidebar: Fullscreen capture 3222011 91016 AM.bmpBut you can still follow these directions to get the box with faces of the people who have liked you.

I have a Facebook account, but I rarely am on it.  I’ll try and post updates, but really?  I don’t know what I am doing so it might take me a while.  I’m so much more into blogging than Facebook!

It took me forever to figure out how to do add that little box to the right.  So I thought I’d give you a couple tips if you are wanting to add one to your blog as well.  Traffic is a good thing—it helps pay off all your hard work!

STEP ONE:

Sorry it is a bit blurry, but rather than creating a group on your regular facebook page, go to the sign up for facebook page (after signing out if you are signed in), and click on the create a page for a celebrity, band, or business, circled in the black below.  Sorry you can’t really read that very well in the picture, but that’s what it says.

STEP TWO:

After clicking on create a page, fill out the Official Page information on the right—I didn’t create a community page.

Since I am wanting to promote this blog, I clicked on Brand, Product, or Organization and chose Website.

Once you get here, you can upload a picture, invite friends to like you, and other things like that.

STEP THREE:

Before you leave this page, click on the wall, if that’s where you want the landing page to be.  Then highlight and copy the url at the top of your internet page.  You’ll need to enter this on the next step.

STEP FOUR:

Click back onto the Get Started tab.  To create the box that you’ll add onto your blog sidebar, the box that says, “Find Us on Facebook”, click on #4 (if it’s the same as mine).  It says, “Promote this Page on your website.  Add a Facebook Like Box to your site and give people an easy way to discover and follow this Page.” (highlighted in blue):

STEP FIVE:

You’ll end up on the page pictured below.  See where the > is pointing?  That’s where you will paste the url that you copied in step 3.

I found that if the Facebook Platform box doesn’t show up, then it wouldn’t work.  After that Facebook Platform box appears, paste your code in the URL, then click on some white space and wait for it to update.  To explain better:  each time you make a change, click outside of the gray box to see the changes updated to the right (what your url is and the size changes, etc will take place of the Facebook Platform box)—I don’t know if that is necessary, but it seemed to be when I was trying to figure it out!

STEP SIX:

From there, it’s pretty self-explanatory.  In the gray box, I pasted my URL, changed my width to what I wanted it to be, left everything checked except for stream (because it was making the box really long).

After clicking on Get Code, I copied the html for XFBML—and for no other reason than it worked and the other one didn’t and I’m not computer savvy enough to tell you anything about the why’s of that :).  Fullscreen capture 1102011 44618 PM.bmp

STEP SEVEN:

After copying the html pictured above, log into your blog and add a gadget in your sidebar or somewhere on your blog and choose html.  Paste the code and move your new Facebook box where you’d like it!  Oh yes!  One more thing!  Since I already had a FB page, it’s linked to my normal profile.  To find your page your just created if you were already on FB, click under account, and manage pages.  It will be listed there!

I hope that helps someone!  Maybe it’s all just super easy and you all think that I must be a moron for not knowing how to do this!  But I hope it saves someone else some time if you have been wanting to add that Facebook button to your blog!   Now if only I knew how to run the page I just made on Facebook…be patient with me ;).
