With Dr. Seuss week and my Bailey giving a report in Kindergarten on the Red Fox, I just could not resist making her a cute fox cape!
I remember I had seen a really cute fox dress, and when I showed Bailey the picture she did like it, however she saw this cape as well and really wanted the cape so we went with her wishes. I aim to please. Especially when I spend time sewing and my kids actually want to wear what I spent some time on!
The pattern is from Hello Dear Kids on Etsy HERE. THIS is the dress I had wanted to make her. Maybe someday. Because it’s really great. Back to the cape though. Because it’s pretty great as well.
I used a stretch velvet from Joann and was so happy to find the perfect color! I was worried I wouldn’t be able to find something with just the right amount of red and orange together. It actually has a slight shimmer to it as well which I knew Bailey would appreciate. The outside is a pretty floral cotton, also from Joann (as well as the wood button). The white fabric is cut from a washcloth that I thought had a great texture for the fox face and ears.
As far as sewing time, it actually took me longer than I thought it would. But it was ok because it really has been forever since I’ve sewn something. This year is proving to be one of the busiest years yet for me and by the end of the day I am so exhausted I normally crash. And since sewing for me is typically a night time event, that’s the first to go when I’m busy and tired. Which it seems is really all. the. time. Which is also totally ok with me because life is good, even if I don’t get to be sewing ;).
I’ll be honest in saying that I don’t actually love the hood fit. It fits a little funky but it is pretty cute. It’s just cuter off her head than on it. I feel like if the pattern had stuck with a typical hood design and then just had the fox face sewn on top of that, it would work out better. Still, adorable, and the hood face is really cute. Just fits strange. Other than that, I like the pattern fine. The instructions maybe aren’t as thorough as I’m used to seeing but since I’m pretty seasoned at this sewing stuff, it wasn’t a big deal and easy for me to figure out. Just a heads up.
(her mandatory Frankenstein pose): And now I’m off to sleep! Have a great weekend!
