Indiana Jones Birthday Party

09/12/2010 By Christie

My son C turned 7 this week, and wanted an Indiana Jones party.

It’s so funny how kids latch onto things—even without having ever seen the movies.

For party favors I made a SUPER easy satchel for all the kids, like the one Indiana wears in the movies.  I just took a 21” x 10” piece of brown felt, and folded one end up so that there was a 6” flap left.

I sewed around the 3 sides (leaving the folded one alone) and then sewed on a yard of this rope stuff I found at Walmart for $0.69/yard.  They came together really fast, as you can imagine!DSCF1706

I found these cowboy hats at The Dollar Tree.

I thought they looked too much like cowboy hats (that’s weird) and decided to cut some of the hat off.

Then I looked at what I cut off and realized that it would make the perfect whip!  Score!  Two for one, baby!

So I wrapped some yarn around the ends (applying glue)…   DSCF1695 DSCF1702  DSCF1697

And called it a whip!

For the invitations and the cupcake toppers, I used the Indiana Jones font, otherwise known as SF Fedora.  I downloaded the font here, but there are many places that you can download from. DSCF1765

I made a very simple whip image using Scrapbook Factory Deluxe.  Really, I feel silly offering it as a download because they aren’t anything all that great, but if it can help anyone, then you can download some generic invites here.

And some cupcake toppers that you can download here. cupcake toppers generic indiana jones

I did personalize them for my son’s party but if you are in a crunch, these might be a time saver for you.  Just print the invites and the cupcake toppers onto cardstock.

I found some of the party game ideas here and here.

We had a treasure hunt, and the prize was found in the trunk of our vehicle.  The kids loved getting their own satchels, hats, and whips!DSCF1768

A map for their placemats—I used one of the maps found on this website.

Instead of “Pin the Tail on the Donkey” we had the kids fly the plane to the dot on the map, blindfolded.  We used this plane image.  I just cut out the country shapes—I am no geography whiz, so be nice:). DSCF1769

We made binoculars out of toilet paper rolls.

We also made paper airplanes.  DSCF1794 - Copy

I really love planning parties for my kids.  We had a blast!!!

What great ideas! I’ll have to maybe steal a few when Reese’s Birthday comes around, seeing as though Indiana Jones is his favorite! :) Although now Harry Potter is giving Indie a run for his money…
