The goal of the Scars are Beautiful shirts is to help my girls and others like them embrace their scars–they’ve both had major surgeries which has left them with large scars. And I want them to be proud of what those scars represent: courage and hope and strength. Each shirt purchased will help a family with a medically fragile child. A portion of the profits will be donated to a nominated family. You can see how to nominate a family HERE.
I have my own scars from many surgeries, but I wear this shirt for my kids. My son also has had surgeries leaving him scarred, so I need to design something for boys as well. These shirts are obviously not just for heart kids. Or heart moms. There are so many surgeries that happen, so many life threatening illnesses that require surgery, and I want these kids to feel strong and beautiful and perfectly imperfect. 
I want my kids to know they are beautiful how they are. And really, that I am thankful for their scars because it means that they were saved through having a life-saving surgery. 
The shirts are made in Honduras and screen printed here in the U.S. More details on sizing and material and care instructions can be found under the listings in the shop. 
For some reason on the self-timer on my remote, the pics get a bit washed out, but I still love this picture. 
My grand daughter Niia just celebrated her 4th “Heart Day” on February 14th. It’s the first day of the rest of her life where drawing a breath isn’t agony! Her real Heart was repaired and she has a beautimous line that reminds us all how blessed we are! Just wanted to share that with you!
About 6 mos ago I downloaded your Hexagon Table Runner as my first project…got some fabric cut and can’t find the pattern! Can you help me please?

I would definitely buy one designed for boys! My son has scars from a surgery he had and I always want him to see the scars as a sign of his strength. I love that these shirts are helping families needing medical care too, because there is obviously a special place in my heart for that <3
I would love to design some for boys as well. I need these Scars are Beautiful shirts to pick up in sales or it won’t happen :(. I’ve sold a few but not as many as I would like to.
