Sew Through the Decades Challenge: 1990’s

10/14/2010 By Christie

Wikipedia says:  By the early 1990s, leggings were actually outselling jeans in many parts of the United States.

Since the beginning of this challenge, I knew I wanted to make leggings for the 90’s, seeing as how they are popular again (man, that didn’t take long before these came back in style).

I originally thought I’d try my own out, but last night I just didn’t feel like spending my time if someone else had already figured them out.  I used Ashley from Lil’ Boo Blue lil’ leggings pattern.  I figured the money was worth not spending time on something that just might not work!  And I was right—if they are wearable and work in the crotch area, I call it a win.   DSCF2403

I used an Old Navy shirt that was a couple bucks during one of their amazing sales–fun times with Sabra.   And thanks to Sabra, I used her serger so the leggings sewed up nicely and quickly. DSCF2406

I did not make the dress—it was a birthday present to Little Miss B, but I think it’s from Kohls.  Although, you can totally do it—it’s basically a knit shirt on top with a gathered skirt on the bottom.  It’d be easy to do!

Wanna see what’s going on above that cute little bum?  Here’s a typical rundown of our photo shoots these last few times.

I say, “B, smile!”

Hmmm.  I’ll get back to you on that. DSCF2407

“Please B?  Just smile real fast and we can go inside and have your sucker!”  She answers:  Don’t wike it!  Is too big.DSCF2408

Oh me?  You want me to smile? DSCF2410

Like this?DSCF2411

Or how about this?  You like this one? (yes, I do—it’s adorable)DSCF2414

And my favorite.  Not amused.  DSCF2415

I love this girl and all the sass that comes with her.

Your little girl is too cute! You did a great job on the leggings. I have the Lil Blue Boo Hoodie pattern and love it. I have thought about buying her leggings pattern but my girls are a size 8 right now so I don’t know if it would be worth it. Good to hear that you liked it. From an Igloo has a legging tutorial here http://fromanigloo.blogspot.com/2010/05/knit-pants-tutorial-no-pattern-required.html for anyone who is interested. :)

I feel the same way, usually when I want to make something, if there’s already a pattern, I don’t hesitate to buy it, saves a lot of time and trials! :) I think I used the same old navy shirt to make leggings for Natalie! love gray/white stripes!

I was one of those kids who wore leggings instead of jeans. They were SO comfy! I actually just got my niece a white with gray striped leggings from H&M the other day!
