1970-1979 Fashion

05/25/2010 By Christie

Wow!  It took me forever to find a good video to showcase some fashion!  This one is great because it shows more than just one style during this decade.

Here is another video.  The music is completely not fitting, in my opinion.  Like at all.  I don’t care if it was written or popular in the 70s, it’s still strange in this video.  Although it is pretty…  So maybe you’d like to turn down the music for this one but still enjoy the good pics of fashion in the 70s.

To sum up this decade in a few words:  bell-bottoms, mini skirts, pant suits, disco, and platform shoes.    Picture found here.

Fashion Hunters said, “No other decade can compete the 1970s clothing as for its variety of styles and trends. 70’s were even nicknamed ‘the decade of bad taste’…  The 1970s clothing was varied and eclectic. This decade embraced lots of styles: retro, ethnic, classical, romantic, folk, gypsy, hippie, military, safari, unisex and so on.

According to Wikipedia, the early 70s were a continuation of the hippie look from the late 60s.  “The decade began with a continuation of the hippie look from the 1960s. Jeans remained frayed, and the Tie dye shirts and Mexican peasant blouses were still popular. In addition to the mini skirt, mid-calf length dresses called “midis” and ankle-length dresses called “maxis” were also worn in 1970 and 1971, thus offering women three different skirt lengths.”

Gotta love John Travolta.

The Wisconsin History site has some neat children’s clothes from the 70s.

Most of the patterns I find thrifting are from 70s.  Most of the time I think, “If I just make that dress knee length, it’d be SO cute!”  And it’s true.  The too-big dress I made for B was a 1972 pattern.  So most likely I’ll be using one of my thrifted patterns for this decade!

There are just so many fun fashions you can choose from!  And some ugly ones too, but which decade doesn’t have ugly fashions??  None!
