1980-1989 Fashion

05/25/2010 By Christie

Raise your hand if you were born in the 80s??? I was, and boy, my husband won’t let me live it down even though he LIVED more years during the 80s than I did. Seriously, I have a hard time watching any 80s movie and not cringing at the styles! So here’s hoping I can find something that I desire to make from this decade!  The good news is, some of the 80s have come back and can be cute paired with today’s styles:).   Like leggings–totally cute.  This post took me the longest of ANY of the posts in search of something that might inspire you to come up with something not hideous.  Sorry, can you tell that this is my least favorite decade!?

This video isn’t really about fashion, but it brought me back to the 80s (and some 90s) and I thought some of you  might appreciate it:).

Okay, okay, this one is more about fashion:

Wikipedia says,
“While in the 1970s, the silhouette of fashion tended to be characterized by close fitting clothes on top with wider, looser clothes on the bottom, this trend completely reversed itself in the early 1980s as both men and women began to wear looser shirts and tight, close-fitting pants. Men wore power suits as a result of the greater tendency for people to display their wealth. Brand names became increasingly important in this decade, making Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein household names.

“During the Like A Virgin era, Madonna was titled the “Material Girl” and many young girls around the world looked to her for fashion statements. The popular 1983 movie Flashdance made ripped sweatshirts well-known in the general public. The television shows Dallas and, in particular, Dynasty also had a similar impact, especially in the area of the increasingly oversized shoulder pads.”

More great links:

Polyvore.com put together some pretty awesome collages of 80s style from popular movies at that time. It’s neat because they use items you can buy today to get the looks back then, and of course they look much better:). Some of them have a curse word written on them when you click over, so I apologize!!! You’ve been warned:).

I am a child of the ’80s (born in the ’70s), so this is the decade that I am really looking forward to! And a week before my birthday. Can’t wait!

She-ra and He-man totally should have hooked up! Why didn’t they?

That was such a blast from the past!
