1960-1969 Fashion

Wikipedia says,

“The 1960s featured a number of diverse trends. It was a decade that broke many fashion traditions, mirroring social movements during the period. In the middle of the decade, culottes, box-shaped PVC dresses and go-go boots were in style. The widely popular bikini came into fashion in 1963 after being featured in the musical Beach Party.

“The ’60s also gave birth to the skinny jean, worn by Audrey Hepburn, which is again popular with young women today.

The late 1960 produced a style categorized of people whom promoted sexual liberation and favored a type of politics reflecting “peace, love and freedom”. Ponchos, mocassins, love beads, peace signs, medallion necklaces, chain belts, polka dot-printed fabrics, and long, puffed “bubble” sleeves were additional trends in the late 1960s.

New materials other than cloth (such as polyester and PVC) started to become more popular as well.
Starting in 1967, the Mod culture began to embrace reggae music and its working class roots. The new urban fashion known as Skinhead was born.”

Hmm, maybe that red polka dot dress I loved so much on the last post was from the early 60’s actually???

OK, this is cute and funny.  The dancing while modeling the clothes is awesome and really comical to me!  The sunglasses at the end???!!!  Wow.  So hilarious!

Fashion era says that the Fifties hung on until 1966.  Which, from researching and trying to find pictures to post, is very much the case!

Elvis obviously had a huge influence on fashion for the teenage boys.

I am having a hard time trying to peg down children’s clothing during this decade and the last.  It was easier to find stuff on the older decades!  Maybe because the kids clothing was very similar to adults in this decade and the 50s???  At least in girls dresses I think this is probably true.

Don’t forget, 1969 was the year of Woodstock, so think Hippies!!!

P.S.  I watched That Thing You Do while I wrote this post, which was supposed to have taken place in the 60’s.  It made me think that of course you can always look at films made during these decades to inspire you!
