A Quilt for my Aunt

12/30/2015 By Christie 5 Comments

Paris Flea Market Quilt Find // lemon squeezy homeMy sisters and I made my Mom a quilt together last year (see HERE). It was so fun to sew with my sisters. Sometimes we go too long between just hanging out and it’s just a good excuse to get together and chat.

I really love giving people quilts. I know I’ve said that before but it’s the truth. It’s the most special and “from the heart” gift that I feel I am capable of giving. So much time, thought, effort involved and it’s really my favorite thing to give people. Paris Flea Market Quilt Find // lemon squeezy home

This time around, I decided I’d make one for my dear Aunt. She is single and has no girls to sew a quilt for her, and she deserves a beautiful gift as she is so generous and sweet. I picked the fabric out on a some Joann sales, fabric that I thought would go well with the blues my Aunt decorates her home with. I wanted it to be something that was her style, something I thought she would love. I think choosing fabric for a quilt can be so fun, but so hard at the same time! I found it hard to get a lot of blues that went well together, and certainly not from the same fabric lines. It’s just so much easier when a whole fabric line has so many options but obviously this blue is not the most trending color right now and so it was difficult. After picking out the fabric I called my sisters and asked if we dared attempt to sew another quilt together. They both said Yes, thankfully! Paris Flea Market Quilt Find // lemon squeezy home

And so we would go weeks without getting together, debating whether or not to delay the gift for a birthday or other holiday. We’d get together and try and work around the needs of our kiddos, and then divvy out what needed to be done for the next time and get together again. This quilt was a bit more involved and time consuming than other quilts, but we got it done! I had a local woman quilt it and she did a beautiful job (she doesn’t have a website of any kind or I would link to her).

The blues are beautiful. I am to the point of picking out boarders. I used Bonnie and Camille Hello Darling for the blocks. I went looking for picture of the completed quilt because I felt like I needed a light border and sure enough, there was yours with a blue on white boarder. I hope I have enough of the fabric I am thinking I need. If anything, i may have to have a smaller border. I have been saving blue fabrics for a friend of mine and this makes me think I may use this pattern. It was pretty easy really. Thanks for posting!
