Graveside Cake

This cake would work great for Halloween, but it was actually for my Mom’s 60th birthday party. Morbid, right?  I searched online for a fun 60th birthday cake and I found the idea for this cake with this pin HERE, but the pin led no where.  It also looks much prettier than this cake.  I do not claim to be a cake decorator, but it was still fun to make.

My step-dad planned a huge birthday extravaganza for the day of her birthday.  All day was full of surprises and tons of time spent with my siblings and I.  It was all really fun and she was indeed surprised.

I was in charge of making a cake to go along with the “theme” of the day, which as you can see, was pretty funny.  She was a good sport.  My step-dad is four years younger than her, so he sure rubbed it in :).  Here are some fun signs my sister and her husband made.

My brother painted some roses black and we decked out the inside as well.

My mom was with me in the hospital 9 years ago on her birthday waiting for Mr. Zippy to be born (our first).  He missed being born on her birthday by 4 hours.  So I’ve been in party planning mode for a while now with my mom’s and two of my kids’ birthdays in September!

Can you guess the theme of Mr. Zippy’s party?  I’ll post all the details next week.
