Nessie Top and Fur Hat

02/27/2014 By Christie

Nessie Deer Top

Last week I sewed up CINO’s Nessie Top.  It’s a lovely pattern, simple to follow and understand (as all of Jessica’s patterns are!).  You can whip this shirt up in no time.  It’s definitely a comfortable shirt with a pretty, flowing silhouette which gives it the perfect amount of style, especially when paired with leggings.

The pattern is drawn to create a fun high-low effect from front to back, but since I was using an existing shirt I purchased at Target it’s curved and longer in both the front and back.  I was surprised at how perfectly the curve of the shirt followed the curve of the back shirt panel pattern.  Plus I didn’t have to hem.  I also banded the sleeves so I didn’t have to hem the sleeves.  I should have made a size 5—that is my own fault and choice because I wanted the shirt to fit her next winter since she’s pretty well stocked already for our current winter.  I made the size 6 (Bailey is 5 1/2) and it’s a little big but so super cute.  But sizing up and adding the band on the sleeves resulted in the sleeves being a little of an awkward length for now.  But again, that was my fault and not the pattern’s.

If I were to choose three words for this pattern, I’d say it was easy, adorable, and comfortable.

If I were to choose three words for taking these pictures, I would choose freezing cold and windy.  :)  As in, I felt like it was child abuse taking her out there without a coat.  But she was a good sport about it.  She did NOT want me to take off her “cat hat” as she calls it, because as you can imagine, that keeps her pretty toasty warm.

So about that hat.  I LOVE it.  And Bailey LOVES it too.  She wears it everywhere.

 Fur Hat

I was heavily inspired by Tara’s Style (Girl Like the Sea).  She has pictures on instagram frequently of her cutie in a fur hat.  I just love the style and then in the STYLO magazine (which is complete inspiration and awesomeness from tons of talented ladies), Tara’s style once again really inspired me.  I used a fun tutorial from Suburbia Soup.  However, I can’t link to it now (I’m assuming her domain name expired because it’s doing what happened when I accidentally let mine expire).  HERE is the pin though, and hopefully the tutorial will be up again soon.  The tutorial for the hat had a scarf with it.  I just made the hooded part and used a snap for the closure.
