V is for… {sew all 26}

03/06/2014 By Christie

Sew all 26

For those of you coming over from No Big Dill, welcome!  Happy to have you here!  For anyone who doesn’t know, Katy is doing a series on her blog called Sew All 26.

She has invited guests along for the ride, and I have to say it was fun to come up with something for the letter V!  I have loved seeing how everyone has come up with such creative things for their letters. Such a fun series.  And of course, Katy is so inspiring and I never miss her posts.  She’s an artist in every way and I love the girl.

After brainstorming for a bit I decided to use voile fabric with little houses to make a village.  It’s Anna Maria Horner fabric from her Little Folks line (I purchased it at Hawthorne Threads HERE—plus it’s discounted).  And the voile is so wonderful to work with for apparel clothing.  Way back when I signed up, I had wanted to figure out how to make a dress or top with a v-back.  But then the stars aligned and Shauna from Shwin & Shwin came out with her Georgia Twirl Top/Dress pattern and I purchased the pattern within minutes of seeing it, because of that v-back.  I LOVE it!  And I didn’t have to spend the time figuring anything out—win win!

V is for

I absolutely love how the top turned out.  Bailey does too.  These days I feel like I sew her something and she takes it off the second we are home after taking pictures.  Well, apart from her cat hat :). But she wore this top the rest of the day.  Makes me happy when she agrees that something is adorable on her.  It could be the twirl-able factor.

Twirl!

I had to cut the circle skirt portion in two pieces, then once down the back so the circle skirt portion is in 3 pieces for the top layer–be aware that if you have directional fabric you will need to do the same or the pattern on the back of the top will be upside down :).  I wanted some sort of sleeves on the top and so I took out my pattern pieces for Made By Rae’s Geranium Dress and modified just the bodice to make faux sleeves.  I used a beautiful turquoise linen for the lining.  I shortened my lining by 2 inches. This top could be reversible as well, which is fun.

For the vest, I just modified the BBC Vest (also from Shwin Designs) and only used the back pattern piece and drafted a quick front to it and called it good.

It’s not perfect, but I still think it’s so great on Bae.

I have to include this next picture because it encompasses her fiery personality.  Yes, she’s very sweet most of the time, but mess with her and you get this type of a response (mostly aimed towards teasing brothers or in this case, a pesky fly).  Yah…don’t mess with this one, ha ha!

And there you have our letter V.

Georgia

Thanks for having me Katy, and for being patient with me as things were delayed.  For those that don’t or can’t follow on Instagram, Ruby has had pneumonia this past week and things have been a bit insane.  She’s taking a long time to recover and we hope things will be back to our “normal” soon…whatever that normal is, because honestly this “normal” is the craziest it’s been in our household for years.  But it’s ok, life is still wonderful in so many ways.

Hope you all have a wonderful day, and thank you for reading!

Top:  Anna Maria Horner Voile and Joann linen, pattern is a blend between Shwin Designs Georgia Twirl Top and Made by Rae’s Geranium Dress

Fur vest:  fur and linen lining from Joann, pattern loosely based on Shwin Designs BBC Vest

There I was thinking ‘V’ was going to be a challenging week for whoever got that – but you’ve smashed it! Great work, and such a cute top – twirl factor is always a win.

Sad to hear that little Ruby wasn’t well – my prayers for her and all of your family.

I am sorry to hear that Ruby has had pneumonia. She has had more than her fair share of medical problems. My thoughts are with you.
