Purse Week: Day One

10/08/2012 By Christie

How are your purses coming? There are some great ones popping up in the flickr pool and I’m excited to see what this week brings.

Today I’d like to welcome my friend Melanie from The Crafty Cupboard. She is super talented, is an awesome quilter, and really fun to be around, as I got to meet her in person once.  My kids were a little nuts so we didn’t get to talk as much as I would’ve liked, but it was still fun to meet her!  Take it away Melanie!

Hello, Lemon Squeezy Readers and Purse Week Participants! I am Melanie, and I blog over at The Crafty Cupboard. I love sewing, and squeeze in crafting every now and again too! I mostly sew for my three girls, myself, and my home. You will find a quilt-in-progress at any given moment in my sewing area, too!

I am so excited to be here today to show how you can take a very, very simple Tote bag and turn it into something much fancier with the addition of… a big bow. Yep! Easy as that!

Zig Zag Bow Bag

The whole reason I created this bag was because I really wanted to have a purse with the title “Big Zig Zag Bow Bag.” No other reason… except that it quickly became useful to hold my music books and kid-entertaining paraphernalia.

Zig Zag Bag Interior

I’m not one to collect purses- in fact, I’m happiest with a drivers license and debit card in my pocket. Unfortunately, as a mom and life-liver, my pockets can’t contain the necessary things that come along with life’s activities and children’s necessities.

With a bigger bag, lots more can be toted around town. And if I am going to be hauling around all this stuff, I might as well do it with style! The big bow is my favorite part of the whole thing, and 100% inspired by the Madison Dress by Jessica of Craftiness is not Optional (one of the Purse Week Judges). A super simple tote bag is completely transformed with a little girly pizzazz! Easy enough for a beginner, too.
