Yea for mood swings! Just kidding. But seriously, I really didn’t want to be stuck with polka dots if I didn’t feel like wearing them, even as cute as they are!
I remembered the super talented Ashley from Make It and Love It doing some cute interchangeable flip-flops on this post. Which led me to think that I could make some ruffles with the same idea in mind.
So I made four pairs of ruffles for my shoes. Since they velcro on, it is super easy to swap the ruffles for another pair!
And they all look so pretty stacked together:).
So, I already stated in my last post that I was inspired by these shoes I own:
And these shoes found here:
Let’s begin!
Before any sewing, measure your shoe across the top to get some measurements. Mine was 4”.
You will need:
-E-6000 glue or other strong glue
– *4” of one inch wide velcro, cut in half lengthwise. (*or your measurement from above)
-two 4” x **8” pieces of fabric. (**If 4” was not your measurement from above, then replace the 8” number with twice the length of your measurement from above). If you want more ruffle, then add more length. If you want less ruffle, then make the length shorter.
-ribbon, beads, gems, etc. for embellishing
-some plain high heels or flats to add the ruffles to!
Glue the velcro to the shoe, wear you want the ruffle to be. Just make sure to cut off the extra velcro at an angle so it doesn’t hang down.
Take one of the pieces of fabric. Fold the ends over 1/4 inch and sew down.
Fold in half lengthwise and sew 1/4” from edge, to form a tube.
Open seam and iron.
Turn tube right side out and make the seam go down the middle.
See how it’s squared on the ends? You need to angle part of it so it doesn’t hang over the shoe and get all dirty.
Great idea!
So cute! Love them! Thanks for sharing ;)

I would love to see a photo of these from the side and with an outfit. Off to find some shoes I can do this too.
You’d almost never need another pair of shoes, just switch the ruffles for every outfit. And maybe you could add removeable ruffles to a purse to coordinate.
Brilliant! What a wonderful way to give a pick-me-up to a tired pair of pumps. Also, what a great way to make a pair of hand-me-down shoes special for your child. I’ll be linking on Facebook. Thanks :)
These are so darling! They are perfect for mom’s and for little girls!! So cute!
I love, love, love this and can’t wait to make some! They’re so pretty! Thanks tons, I’ll be linking.
I tried to make something similar to this with disastrous results! I wish I hadn’t thrown the shoes out now, I could have saved them.
You’ve got to be kidding me. You MADE these? Adorable. How cute!
Wow! That is really nice and unique. Maybe, I can also use the idea of removable ruffles on some of my hair accessories. =)
Oooh! I love that idea!
