I had to specify which Rocky we were talking about because once I googled without the Balboa and it was about the furthest thing that Carson would want to be for Halloween (you’ve been warned!).
Carson is really obsessed with Rocky these days. My husband and I grew up watching the movies, and though I don’t particularly care for them myself, my boys love Rocky Balboa. Carson requested that be his ‘first day of school shirt’ that I made him out of anything he could have asked for. Miss Bailey even said that maybe she would choose Apollo Creed for her costume. I love that she’s right there with the boys on what they like.
To make the costume, I just based the robe off of pictures I saw and used one of the Jedi Robes I made for THIS Star Wars Party (which I guess were actually based off of THESE Harry Potter robes). I added the black cuffs and edging to look like the real Rocky robe.
We found an image online that says The Italian Stallion, just like it does in the movie. I had some black felt I was going to try and use and cut the letters and stallion out of, and then remembered the Transfer Artist Paper from Amazon (affiliate link) and was so happy we used it because it really would not have looked as good if I had used felt.
Oh this boy—I’m so glad he still wants to dress up for Halloween. Might be his last year! Hoping for one year after this, but we will see. For now I’m going to enjoy that he still wants to be a kid :).
Fabric: yellow taffeta and black polyester lining fabric from Joann
Gloves: Amazon HERE (affilliate link—**please note: I ordered the 16 oz. gloves but cannot find them on Amazon at this time. The link provided is similar, however the ones linked WILL NOT fit a child older than 4 years old, in my opinion. We had to send them back and ordered the 16 oz. gloves)
Pattern used: loosely based on Simplicity 5512 (an older pattern that has the red wizard costume in the upper left hand corner—also affiliate link)

Oh my goodness. This is so fabulous! I LOVE the Rocky films. Almost all of them.
You did an amazing job. I would be able to tell who he is even without turning around.
Brilliant!

Aw, thanks so so much. I’m glad it’s finished! But honestly it was pretty fun to make :). And he is so happy with it, which makes all the time worth it!

This is exactly what my daughter wanted me to make her for Halloween. Then she changed her mind and I was OK with being lazy. Love this! I pinned it in case we get this request again. :)

This is awesome! My son would love a costume like this, although he probably has no clue who Rocky is!

Hi. I was searching for an Italian Stallion Costume for my ten year old and found your website. Any chance you want to sell this costume? It looks great! Please let me know. It’s not easy to find. There are a lot of adult size ones out there but not children’s. Your son looks older than mine, but it might work! Thank you.
