Sew Through the Decades Challenge Week Six: 1950’s

09/16/2010 By Christie

It was super fun to dress up and wear bright red lipstick, something I have never gone out in public in unless it was Halloween ;).   But this is something I will wear!

My Inspiration:

The Pattern:

I do wish that it was a little fuller, but overall, I am happy with it! DSCF1897

Thank you so much for taking the pictures, Sabra!  And for finding the awesome truck wash with the great color walls!

Click here to read about the challenge.  I’d love to have you sew along with me through the remaining decades, or you can even choose one of the past ones and add it to the flickr group—I’ll be sure to feature it on here!

Yay! You made it! Would you mind if I copied you? Of course I wouldn’t wear to any function you’re going to be at.

    Awesome job!

Straight off the screen from Mad Men! Wait, am I in the wrong decade? Well, sometime the fashions overlap. I think you look awesomely, stylishly vintage, but you’re right, it’s totally wearable, not costumey at all.

You look amazing! These photos are beautiful. I love that 50’s look and it was a brillant idea to use that red dotted fabric for that dress

Gorgeous. You and the dress. You should definitely wear red lipstick more often, it looks stunning on you. And about the dress: If you want it to be a bit fuller, maybe you could try and wear a crinoline or petticoat under it?

Cute dress! I love the polka dots. I wish I dared sew something for myself. Other than skirts, though, it never turns out.

Beautiful dress. How did you do the belt? Did you vary the pattern in any way other than the binding at the bottom?

I love what you did here, I especially love the solid red waistband, I’m hoping I’m not missing it, but have you explained how you added it to the dress?? I’d love to know!
