I got my bangs trimmed today. And I seriously cried when I got back to the car and saw how butchered they were. It was more of a cry-laugh because it seriously looks like one of those older-sibling-cut younger-sibling haircuts. I never thought I would cry over my hair. But I did for about 3 seconds and then realized how lame and shallow I must be, ha ha!
I have bangs that swoop to the left. They are (were) longer on the left and shorter on the right—on purpose. That’s how two other ladies have cut my hair. I kind of just assumed when you said swoop to the side that that is how it was meant to be.
Here’s how my bangs were when I woke up (mirror image, the line indicates where my bangs were hitting):
So I thought, I really need to trim these things. Then I went and paid someone to do this:
Yikes! I thought a trim was supposed to resemble the shape they were already in. I wanted them to swoop towards the left and we discussed this briefly before she began.
After she was finished, I said very nicely because I hate being rude, “Well…I’m just a little confused, if I want them to swoop to the left, then how come they….don’t?”
She said, “Oh no, you want it longer on the other side.”
Actually, no. I don’t want it longer on the other side. But thanks for taking TWO INCHES off the left side so they are ridiculously shorter. Thank goodness hair grows back. I’ll get over it soon enough ;). Maybe by the time they grow back.

So how was your Valentine’s Day? Mine was spent with my sweet hubby and I going out to dinner completely free because of Groupon. If you’ve never checked that out, you really should—there are great deals and I personally think it’s much better than Restaurant.com if you are interested in food deals.
Then we went to Barnes and Noble and both browsed magazines we love. That’s one of our favorite dates—dinner and a book shop.
Sorry this post is unrelated to crafting or sewing. It’s just what’s been going on around here. There is sewing being done this week. All to come shortly.
Plus, I’m super excited because I’m getting a blog make-over. I’ve been saving money to get a decent camera, but I’m really excited for this change and the camera will just have to wait a bit longer! Heather from Blessed Little Nest is working on it. She creates really wonderful designs.
Thanks for the kind remarks on the background post last week!

I was so tired of horrible bang trims that I finally decided to grow mine out. WHY are bangs so hard???

ack! I feel your pain! You know what, at least if they butcher the back of your head you can pin it up or something. If you butcher your bangs you kind of just want to curl up in the fetal position. And/or butcher THEIR bangs. lol.
I actually do my own bangs because I’m very particular about them… I used to swoop them to one side but now I have them centered, but they are shorter in the middle and longer on the sides. I tell hairdressers they can blend them into the cut a little but leave them as long as possible.

Why is it when “hair stylists” give you a bad haircut, you can’t do anything about it? When I had bangs, I would suffer in silence each time they were butchered. Now I keep my front long to avoid this trauma. And there’s nothing shallow about crying over bad hair.
Mary
oh man! I hope you feel better about them after a little while! I’ve totally cried over my hair. in the stylist’s chair. because after “trimming” for an hour and a half, I finally caught a glimpse and realized what was happening to my locks. good news is it grew back enough for a real cut after a couple months :)

The last time I got my hair cut, it was by a new guy that I hadn’t been to before. When I left, I called my sister in tears and said “Mr. McFeeley just gave me Mom’s hair cut!” I haven’t let anyone touch it since and it’s been over a year. It looks fine now that it’s long again, but I haven’t worked up the nerve to trust anyone with scissors near my head.

I think we have all cried over our hair at some point, so don’t feel shallow! Seriously, though, we might need to see an actual picture! Just look at it this way, maybe you could use it as an excuse to buy some super cute barrettes or headbands to hold back the bangs until they grow out (speaking from experience)!
Jamie
The good news is, they’ll grow! THe bad news is, you have to live with them until they do.
Bangs always go badly for me. I’ve given up.
The Hunter's Prize
I would cry too! Even if no one else notices, I would notice! I have had a few bad haircuts in my life, but the great thing is that it grows out! I’m sure you look fine, as well.
Chris
I’m cry-laughing there with you too. I got my hair cut for my birthday last June. It ended up so short, I haven’t cut it since! Thank goodness it grows. :)

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me last year. i have left side sweeping bangs too and my hairdresser cut them for me and then when i went back to get a cut and bang trim, she made them straight! ACK!! so i know your pain :) and that is when i started trimming my own bangs :) and every time i go i lie and say i am growing them out so she wont cut them :)
Anna @ Blue Dirt
I get my bangs cut straight and then when they grow out enough I swoosh them over to (my) left. So if you need a fix, go retro for a while. I’m having a really hard time finding someone to trim my bangs well!
Brad
Ouch! That is a problem with hair cutters, they sometimes don’t consider what their customer wants.

those are the bang pictures we get, seriously!?!? Now I need to run over to your house and see them in real life. Though the illustrations are really fab.
Sorry about the butchering, though. I’m confused as to what she was thinking, too.

Oooo looking forward to your blog lift! I just recently splurged on one too AND am saving for a camera sigh. Rebel T2i, I think. You?

Oh man! Hair! In the fall I decided that i would try to save some money by having a friend who is a beautician highlight my hair… At home. (very very bad idea) she not only fried my hair but also turned it strawberry shortcake color…. Ughhh. I shudder thinking about that debacle. It cost me about 250 to have it fixed. Oh well i have learned my lesson. Just go to the salon and don’t have friends try to do your hqir at home. Sorry about your bangs. On a positive note, your drawings are lovely… : )
Kimberly
Don’t feel lonely! I too have cried over haircuts but thankfully, it grows back (although the ‘bad ones’ seem to grow out slower, don’t they? ;) I’ve thought “Do I really have to pay for this? I could’ve done that for free all by myself!” ;) I feel your pain — we’ve all been there! Thanks for sharing!
Brooke
Oh my gosh! That sucks but they’ll grow back fast. I have mine swoop, getting longer at the edge of my face… I’m surprised that a stylist didn’t think of it being more appropriate. But they’ll grow – faster than you think – and then you can clip them as they fill in.

Oh no! I’ve have had bad hair cuts. I think she confused the “left.” But that’s okay! It’ll grow back soon.
