Update: a couple of you have thought that she misunderstood me and was swooping it the other way. I wish that was the case, and I can definitely see why that would be your thoughts because I would think that too! :). Even after I said I was confused, she swooped them the way I had wanted them and said, “No, see? That’s how they are supposed to be.” There were hand motions, “swoop motions”, any and all communication done, all indicating where I wanted it to go, and she even was sweeping my bangs the correct way. So I left with them swooping the same way I previously had and wanted, the way I asked, but they taper up, rather than down. Hopefully my friend can save me tonight! Thanks again for the fun support—it really has helped me laugh it off:), and I do realize it could be much worse.
Here it is. If you thought my illustration might have been exaggerated, this is for you ;).
Love my wrinkles with me. And my clumpy mascara. Mmmkay?
And the pics are confusing, because the ones where you see all of me are taken in the mirror, and the other two closer up I just pointed the camera right at the blessed bangs.
Notice how they don’t really swoop to the left side of my face so much? (your left if looking at the picture)
Notice how they are still too long in the MIDDLE of my forehead? The short side is where it should be swooping to. Maybe I’ll just have to swoop my bangs the other way. These next two pics weren’t taken in the mirror, so that’s my left side that’s so short.
Oh, and did you notice the line down there in white? Well, that’s where my bangs previously fell.
Sadly, our tale of “The Dreadful Trimming of Christie’s Bangs” has to come to an end now. Have a good night ;).
Can’t wait for the hubs to see me.
(I’ve only had a couple bad experiences with getting my hair done, so I really do have a lot of love for those brilliant people who make me look/feel better about my hair.)
Amy @ Increasingly Domestic
Oh my gosh Christie!
She really did a number on those side bangs! I agree that switching sides may be in order until they grow out a little;)
I love that you shared photos…you are awesome.
Bethany
Hmmmmm….it’s definitely different. But I don’t think it’s terrible in and of itself. Maybe compared to what you wanted it’s drastic, but taken by itself I’ve seen worse. I know that’s no consolation–but I can sympathize. It’ll grow out. And you’re adorable so you can work it :)
Twins Squared
First of all, they aren’t so bady. Secondly, you are too awesome for posting pictures of something that could have really just been bumming you out.
Maybe, you should just trim them yourself straight across a la Heidi Klum? You can rock that look.
HollowSquirrel
Um, are you sure the person who did this to you was actually a hairdresser OR perhaps a robber, caught in the act, so they had to pretend to be a hairdresser while the real one was tied up in the break room? On many levels with this situation, the police need to be notified.
I’m so sorry. They’ll grow out quickly. I promise!!!!!!!!!!
DJ Rose
You are a brave woman!! Now I am totally scared to get bangs (like I was planning). :)
(Although my husband theorizes that you can’t “get” bangs cause you’ve always had them.)
Larissa
I’ve totally had this happen! In 10th grade I went to a woman to get the “Rachel”, yeah, you know what I’m talking about. She gave me a mullet. I kid you not. I wore my hair in a ponytail for a year. Maybe you can pull them back and do a little bangs bump? :)
2littlehooligans
hmmm, what was she thinking? sorry, but your still dang cute and thanks for giving me some good laughs!
Kimberly from "bugaboo"
That’s awful! I mean, sorry… not you… but really, how could she misinterpret you so badly?? The same exact thing happened to me but with my WHOLE head not just my bangs. So I went to another salon and asked for the best stylist. I told him I had a horrible cut and he said usually that just means the stylist didn’t really know what you wanted. So I explained what I had wanted and then took my hat off. And he GASPED. Then said, “Yes, you’re right. THAT’S a really bad cut.” Thank you, thanks so much. He had to take so much of my hair off, I ended up with a pixie cut. Ah! Anyway, if your bangs let you, you should see how it looks swooped the other way. Or maybe go to a different stylist? Or just wear a fashionable head scarf for a few months… ;)
Pedey @ Do You Smell That!!?
Ya – she definitely got it wrong this time, didn’t she!!?
My last haircut I went in asking for a 2-inch trim to clean up the ends. She took of 6. SIX! And the right side was a full inch longer than the left & there was this mysterious ‘tail’ sticking out the bottom of the back. Seriously – it was a section 3 inches wide that hung down about 2 inches longer than the rest. I have NO idea what this girl was doing. As soon as I got home it dried & I ran a brush through it & realized the hack job. Thankfully another gal was willing to fix it for me! It’s now 1/2 a FOOT shorter than I wanted it, but like you said, at least it’ll grow back!
Lyndsay
Hmmm…I see what you mean. Definitely not the trim you were asking for. With that said, I do kind of appreciate the unique style of these bangs and with confidence you could rock them like you meant for them to be that way. Why the heck not?
CJ
I think you might ask for your money back!! That is not good. I hate going in to get my bangs trimmed so I just trim them myself, it isn’t always pretty (although I have never made them look like yours!!! :0 ) and the hairdresses always comments on how bad they are when I do finally go in. PUHLEEZE, they are out of my eyes, they are relatively straight and it didn’t cost me time and money! The last time I cut my bangs was about 2a.m. right before I went to bed. I have gotten more compliments on my hair in the last 3 weeks than in a long time! LOL!
I only cried once over a haircut. Great to repeat over and over…it is only hair AND it grows back!
CJ
A young friend of mine who is getting married May 1st just went in for a simple LOW LIGHT treatment, her hair turned ORANGE – like BOZO! Two attempts to fix it by the same gal…purple then BLACK! By the time I saw her she had gone to someone else to have it fixed and it was a normal color and had LOTS of conditioning treatments done. Soooooo, your situation could have been worse. ;)
K Blue
I must say…
that while I can see how the hairdresser totally did not follow directions and mussed up…
…you, unlike most normal people, are magically able to pull off this bad bang episode.
Seriously, if I were to walk past you on the street, I would not stop and stare and think, “WHOA! What happened to her bangs?”
I know about that 3 second cry in the car thing though, so {{{hugs}}} to you. Meanwhile, I think you should slap on some red lipstick and just work it, cuz you can.
Julieanne
My number one suggestion…. you said that two girls cut your hair before and you liked it… next time stick with one of them. I have had two hair stylists since Jr. High when I got one horrible hair cut. My sister told my mom that she was never again allowed to take me to a cheap hair cutting shop, but now had to take me to a salon from then on.
Before you try someone new, get a recommendation of who to go to. Both people I have gone to were references. Once you find someone good… stick with them
If it were me… I would switch my part to the other side. But hey… everyone’s different :)
Linz
Oh they really did a number huh! I’m so sorry I just had a bad haircut myself I asked for a long angled bob and got a shoulder length bob, she took off WAY more inches than asked! Luckily hair grows back right! For me bangs seem to grow faster. When I have a bad bang trim I pin them up until the grow back enough to fix them.
Heather at Dragonfly Designs
LOL You’re awesome! I’m always too nice too ~ and have much wittier things to say to the person AFTER the fact. :P Ever think of cutting them straight across? It’d look super cute on you!
diana
Ok, I laughed yesterday ’cause I thought you were so funny. Now…I can only feel sympathetic :D Really, so sorry. It will grow, I know, but, man, you should never go there again :D
Rachel Le Grand
too short of bangs happened to me about a year ago, ugh ! they do grow back, but it does take time, i feel for you…
Laura @ ON{thelaundry}LINE
oh wow. That really is the exact polar opposite of what you wanted.
If it makes you feel better, I once watched a grown man – and a tough looking one at that, borderline bikerish – nearly break down in tears when my friend accidentally buzzed off his sideburns. And I mean, those grow back in a WEEK.
(I’m not nor have I ever been a hairdresser, I just know a whole bunch of them)
DebZorn
I’ve had plenty of horrible haircuts in my day – cheap ones, expensive ones – I guess I just have “that” kind of hair. My very wise dad always said, “The difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is two weeks.” Thank goodness hair grows!
The Allen Family
:) You are a brave woman to show off the bangs. And yes, it is crazy how she could’ve gotten them so wrong. And I agree with some of the others, the straight across bangs would look really cute on you, and if you don’t like them, (after trying them) just give it another week or two and you’ll be able to do something else. :)
Rachelle
Okay, that made me laugh. Sorry sis, not to laugh at your expense.
You might remember my short haircuts, well, just before I had Eden I decided to go in and get my hair trimmed since I wouldn’t have time after she was born. I told the stylist to trim the top but to chop off the bottom to make it nice and short. She did the total opposite!!! I walked out of that salon with a mullet! Got home had Paul cut it and had to lived with it for several weeks. Talk about a bad time to have a horrible haircut.
jennifer
aw! you look great regardless! I agree with the advice to swoop them of to the other side or cut them straight across until they grow out!
I hate hair trauma!! I have curly hair so ma constantly getting bad cuts!
Kourtney
It may be wierd because you are used to wearing them off to one particular side but swoop them the other way…. until they are long enough to style as usual. The only way to “fix” them it to go shorter… and by shorter I mean funny looking. I am a hair stylist and I sooo wish I cold help you… I would totally hook you up. We have all had a bad hair cut… :(
Kristin
I’ve got to throw my two cents in here. I’d trim them a lil’ (all the way across), but trying to keep that center section a tad shorter and wear them a la Audrey Hepburn. it’s a classic look that you could sport temporarily and it grows out much cleaner than your current situation. Your highlights are GREAT though! And you’re very pretty!
I can see how she could go the wrong way. Maybe she was looking at you and you said the word left and she kept thinking _her_ left in stead of yours? Maybe you could just say “this way” and point next time?! Haha!
You’re a great sport! Thanks for sharing!
Tiffany
Miss Christie . . . I must first ask for forgiveness. I was one (of many I am sure) that thought you might have stretched the truth. WEll . . . your illustration was right on the money. I am so sorry. I think you should cut them straight across. Luckily you are a beautiful person. There is 1 thing that I spend money on “wastefully” and a hair cut is one of them. I wish you the best of luck next time.
Ashley O
I’m sorry! I know this isn’t funny for you but, it totally made me smile. I would sooooo cry too! I agree…..swoop those babies in the other direction and call it a day. :)
erin
wow…that made my day!…so sorry but i think you can make it work! ;)
and now you know who NOT to go to!…and to take a diagram next time!!!
American Mama
First of all, as a hairdresser, I must say: that is TERRIBLE work!!!
Secondly, it is actually an accurate technique to hold the bangs in the OPPOSITE direction from where the client wants them to lay when cutting a swooping bang. HOWEVER, this must be done using the correct angle of holding AND cutting the hair. She OBVIOUSLY did NOT have the correct angle. This is supposed to be a “fool-proof” way to cut swooped bangs.. apparently it isn’t.
I’m so sorry that you had such a bad experience. I would go to someone you trust and ask them to give you a cute, wispy straight bang until they grow out. The good news is: Bangs grow quickly!!!! :) Good luck!!
