What Music Do You Craft To?

11/01/2010 By Christie

This is a little off topic, but I’d like to know what music gets you moving and motivated, or just makes you happy when you listen to it.  I LOVE music.  When I’m sewing or crafting at night, music often gets me motivated and helps me have an even more enjoyable time (or helps me stay awake if it’s late!).

When my kids are fighting or getting a bit grumpy, turning on some great music and dancing together really lifts our spirits.

When I don’t feel like cleaning, music can always get me going.

When I was a kid, I just knew that I was not going to be that un-cool of a parent and stop listening to the radio. I always wanted to know the new songs coming out and loved to find another song that I just loved. Well, I am definitely not a radio listener.  I’ve got my i-pod and rarely know what’s new on the radio.

So today I’m going to share with you some of the music I love.  Some old, some new.

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones

I can’t post all the official videos because they block the embed code on YouTube on some of the songs I’d like to put on here, but here are some generic videos of the songs I couldn’t find on Project Playlist.

Ah, there is so much more, and I’m actually just in the mood for these songs, so there isn’t a huge range here, but really, the only music I don’t like is heavy metal and rap (with the exception of a very select couple in both those areas).  I like anything from oldies, country, classic country, pop, rock, alternative, soundtracks, musicals, etc.

So let me have it!  What music do you love to listen to when you need that extra pick me up?

For some reason, I am very productive when I listen to Collin Raye. Although I like his songs, he isn’t my fave. I mean can u imagine listening to his songs over and over again while I sew my bags? But it works.

I listen to a Frank Sinatra mix on Pandora. Love those classics!
And I think I’m going to start listening to some books on CD. That way I can kill two birds with one stone.

If I need a pick me up, it’s usually musicals. In the car it’s the radio (pop/top 40 kind of stuff)… and at work i’ve got this amazing eclectic mix on pandora… with pop, classic rock, oldies, jazz, alternative, you name it on pandora. At home, if I am feeling creative, it’s usually classical or choral stuff. This time of year… and throughout the Christmas season, It’s a lot of Handel’s Messiah. I’m a dork. :)

Pomplamoose, especially “If You Think You Need Some Lovin'”, or Michael Buble, or Nickel Creek depending on my mood!

I am usually a country girl, but when I am sewing I like classical. I also get into Wicked the Musical music and Bon Jovi…that man rocks my world.

Great post! I’m a music lover and always have been. I’m particularly fond of anything mellow but fun…
Iron and Wine – Boy With a Coin : Rusted Root – Send Me on My Way : Weezer – Island in the Sun : Sarah Bareilles – King of Anything : Jack Johnson – Upside Down : John Legend – P.D.A
Just thinking about these songs makes me cheery and motivated to move!

The Decemberists are a favorite of mine … while their music sounds uplifting, if you listen to the words, they aren’t … also The Polyphonic Spree … they are happy music!
Of course there are many more but these are the 2 I thought of first!
And Christie, I was reading your ‘About Me’ again and it’s really very sweet. Really enjoy your blog!

Gotta say that I’m loving Florence and the Machine and Mumford and Sons at the moment to craft to. If I need to get a move on, then I have listen to something with a big beat such as Boom Boom Pow by the BEPs or some Pendulum or the Prodigy which is dance music with a rocky edge to it. I don’t know why but it seems to make me go quicker!

I actually listen to podcasts and audiobooks while I’m crafting. I’m always too busy or exhausted to read, so audiobooks and podcasts are feeding my soul right now! :) But when I do listen to music, right now I’m into Jason Mraz, Regina Spektor, and Phil Whickham.

Love that you had Michael Buble on your list….before I got to that point of the post I was thinking in my head what I listen to and it’s sort of a mix of relaxing awesome music including lots of Michael Buble and if you haven’t heard of him yet you should…Ray Lamontagne!

Love your list! You have a great mix. Mine is very eclectic, with Alt, Southern Rock, Bluegrass, Country, a little bit of Pop…

I don’t do Rap, but I love the old heavy metal like Metallica. I’ve notice that I am most productive when I’m listening to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Go figure. I love Nickel Creek, Alison Krauss, and the O, Brother, Where Art Thou Soundtrack, Michael Buble, Colby Callait and Mindy Gledhill when I’m feeling mellow.

Muse, Coldplay, Tilly and the Wall…to Peter, Paul and Mary, Kate Wolf and the Carpenters (What my mom listened to when I was growing up)

I spend a lot of time in front of the computer on Photoshop (which I know isn’t “crafting” but it’s my “art time”.) And it has to be mellow. Allyson Kraus, The Wilson Twins, KT Tunstill… upbeat but mellow.
