It Finally Fits!

06/30/2011 By Christie

DSC_0124

For one of the Elsie Marley kids clothes week challenges in May of 2010 (post HERE),  I used a thrifted 1972 pattern to make B this dress:DSCF8820DSCF8805DSCF8809

Cute, but it was way huge.  I did add some length because the pattern was from the 70’s, and we all know they loved to show some leg in the 70’s!  The fabric was from Hobby Lobby.  I don’t know if they still carry it.DSCF8816

So yay, a little more than a year later, and it fits pretty well!  And looks adorable with her cowgirl boots.  And if you can’t tell, she’s pretty happy with the pockets.  The only sad part is comparing how much she’s grown in a year.  DSC_0105DSC_0108DSC_0109DSC_0114DSC_0121DSC_0122DSC_0125DSC_0129

Have a great 4th of July weekend if you’re in the States!

Love the pig tails!!!!! I always get so sad looking at old pics of my daughter (she’s now 20 months) but I love her turning into a toddler girl and out of the baby stage. That dress is adorable!!

    Hi Christie!

Thanks for your comment on my green gardening post! I had to drop by and tell you how much I adore miss b’s dress! I have 2 yards of that exact same fabric, some of it went into a few throw pillows and the rest I’m saving for something special. The dress fits her to a “T”

OMG! I have the exact same pattern! My mom gave me all her old patterns she used to use on us growing up. I know she must have made us that dress but I don’t remember ever wearing anything that cute. Our clothes were more polyester fabric than one person should ever have to wear in a lifetime!
Ur little model is such a cutie and my oh my what a difference a year does make :) Have a great 4th

    Christie,
she’s so sweet in it! i am notorious for putting away “too-big” clothes and forgetting to pull them back out in time for the kids to fit into them, so kudos for that alone!
i also am fan of hobby lobby fabric and mine still has that print as well! i just got a sweet hat with a flower on it made from that print…your little miss B needs the hat to go with her dress!

Haha, aww, glad it finally fits! Better too big than too small, then it’s like making a present for yourself… in the future! No? A stretch? Okay, fine, but the dress sure looks darn cute with those cowboy boots. I’ve always had cowboy boots for Nicole but I haven’t been able to find any I like in her size this year! It’s a tragedy! She’s taken to calling her rainboots ‘cowboy boots’ and it just won’t do, won’t do at all.

What a cute and gorgeous doll who is stylin’ in that exuberantly adorable dress! It seems that there were more fun and cute styles in the late 1960’s and 1970’s. Kids just grow too quickly! It just seems like yesterday when they were in the “baby” stage.

Omigosh so cute my head might fall off! I have quite a collection of vintage patterns from thrift stores, but have yet to actually tackle one. Thanks for the inspiration!
